February Grapevine Community Newsletter

Dear Livermore Community,

February is a month of activity throughout our district. Together, and with our community, we are celebrating Black History Month, Science and Engineering, and Career and Technical Education (CTE). This month, and every month, we are committed to honoring the incredible contributions that members of the African-American community have historically made and continue to make to the world of science and beyond. It is more important than ever to point to great innovators and trailblazers as role models and mentors to all of our students.

Our students are preparing to share their research and innovation at our annual Science Odyssey. Our top spellers are competing for the title of Spelling Bee Champion. Bands and orchestras continue their winter concert series, and middle school students plan for high school as they participate in “Pathways to a Bright Future.” We are welcoming new students and new families at our TK/Kindergarten Registration Fairs on February 21st and 22nd. Solar panels are powering up at several of our school sites, providing energy throughout the day, and safer parking areas in the evenings. And our whole community is invited to pick up a book, as we participate in the annual “Livermore Reads Together.”

In our classrooms, on our athletic fields, and through our community, our students are in the midst of their learning. Today is the 100th day of school for the 2017-18 year! I encourage you to ask our students to teach you some of what they have learned thus far.

I continue to be grateful for the dedication of our talented teachers and staff members who work each day so that our students are engaged in their learning and thrive in their progress. Thank you to our community for providing ongoing support of our schools!

Warm Regards,

Kelly Bowers, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
