November Grapevine Community Newsletter

Dear Livermore Community,

It would take a room larger than the planned gymnasium at Livermore High School to fit a Thanksgiving table that could seat the many generous community and staff members who enrich our students’ lives throughout the year. Thank you to everyone who contributes to our schools!

Many hours of professional commitment, infused with love, define the preparation by our teachers, office staff, custodians, yard supervisors, campus catering staff, counselors, specialists, aides, support staff, nurses, and administrators who serve our students daily. Scores of volunteers support our students and staff by giving their time and talents to prepare materials, facilitate activities, and chaperone events. And, behind the scenes, our maintenance, warehouse, and District Office staff support the schools each day. Thank you, also, to our Board Trustees for their tireless commitment to the students of Livermore.

A visit to one elementary classroom reveals layers of community support that combine to bring learning to life for our students. It’s easy to see the Chromebook cart, the document camera, the bulletin board art, the classroom library, and the flexible seating provided by PTA fundraisers, Rotary, and Livermore Valley Education Foundation (LVEF) grants, and by many of our community partners. The upgraded wireless network -- less visible, but key to the integration of technology into 21st-century learning -- is a gift from the entire community through Measure J. And the backpacks hanging outside the door on numbered hooks show both family support and gifts from our community so that each child starts the year with new school supplies.

I want to thank the organizations in our community that support our students and families, often in ways that others cannot see. Our Child Welfare and Attendance staff members collaborate with City Serve, Open Heart Kitchen, Axis Community Health, Tri-Valley Haven, Shepherd’s Gate, and other agencies that make it possible for all students to have life’s necessities. Students who are rested, fed, and healthy are students who can learn and achieve.

Together, we create this generous community of Livermore that we call home. Together, we show our value of education and our faith in the future of our children.

With gratitude,

Kelly Bowers, Ed.D.
