LVJUSD Named Top Workplace

Employees of the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) love coming to work. They are proud to be responsible for the education of over 13,500 students. And they know their dedication makes a positive difference in the community.

For the second year in a row, LVJUSD has been awarded a Top Workplaces honor by the Bay Area News Group (BANG). On Sunday, June 25, 2017, BANG identified the Top 100 Workplaces in the Bay Area. “The Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District celebrates its employees’ passions, dedication and hard work while also taking pride in creating world-class opportunities for its students. Team members work together to empower the next generation of global citizens and to transform the students of today into the world leaders of tomorrow,” wrote Andy Coffaro, Correspondent for the East Bay Times.

Kelly Bowers, Ed.D., Superintendent of Livermore Schools, is proud that the District has been recognized for its positive work. “When I go into classrooms and see the excitement for learning on children’s faces, I know we are all doing important work,” said Bowers. “I am honored that our employees know they are valued for their work and that they are happy being part of our team,” she added.

Craig Bueno, President of the Board of Education, agrees that the LVJUSD is a great place to work. “Our District has now been awarded Top Workplace four times, including the past two consecutive years. Considering the broad competition, this is an especially prestigious award for a public school district. This award clearly illustrates the accomplishments of our motivated and engaged teachers, staff, and administrators, as well as the leadership provided by Dr. Bowers. We will not rest in our pursuit of excellence.” 

LVJUSD earned the Top Workplace honor based on high-scoring results of an employee survey, administered by Workplace Dynamics in February 2017. The survey gave employees the opportunity to evaluate LVJUSD in areas including connection, effectiveness, and leadership. Employees shared that they feel appreciated, able to work to their full potential, and part of something meaningful. They also feel that new ideas are encouraged, their manager helps them to learn and grow, and they have flexibility in work and life balance.

Superintendent Bowers encouraged participation in the annual survey. “Throughout our district, we share an unwavering commitment to continuous improvement. Each year that I have served as superintendent, I have sought employees’ input to learn how we can improve our support of the students, staff, and families of Livermore,” said Bowers.

“The Top Workplaces award is not a popularity contest. And oftentimes, people assume it’s all about fancy perks and benefits.” said Doug Claffey, CEO of WorkplaceDynamics. “But to be a Top Workplace, organizations must meet our strict standards for organizational health. And who better to ask about work life than the people who live the culture every day—the employees. Time and time again, our research has proven that what’s most important to them is a strong belief in where the organization is headed, how it’s going to get there, and the feeling that everyone is in it together.”
