Safety Message from the Livermore Police Department and the City of Livermore

The availability of viable public parking is an important consideration for many Livermore residents, merchants, and visitors. In an effort to ensure safe and accessible parking, the City of Livermore recently passed a new ordinance governing the types of activities that may be carried out in city owned parking lots and structures. The Livermore Police Department wants to inform the public, and specifically the city’s youth, about this ordinance so that they can avoid possible fines related to violating the ordinance.

In summary, the ordinance (LMC 10.20.261) states that city owned parking lots and parking structures may only be used for parking then exiting, entering to retrieve a vehicle, short term passenger drop off/pick up, or direct passage through to another public area.  Examples of current city owned parking lots and parking structures include the downtown parking garage, the parking lot behind the First St. Alehouse, the parking lot behind the Sauced Restaurant, the Livermore Civic Center, and all lots associated with city owned parks. The City is in the process of posting signage at all locations to make people aware of the new ordinance.

Livermore PD has been receiving complaints that juveniles are congregating in the downtown parking garage and we would like to inform the community that this new ordinance makes that type of activity illegal.
