District News & Announcements

The 49ers and Symetra are proud to recognize the passion and dedication of the Bay Area’s educators. Each NFL season, sixteen Bay Area teachers are named Symetra Heroes in the Classroom in honor of their commitment to student achievement. Parents, students (former or current) and all school district staff are eligible to submit a nomination. Hero selection is based on the teacher’s ability to balance core curriculum with students’ individual needs, invest in their students’ long-term success, and build trust among students, parents and the community.

As part of the Symetra Heroes in the Classroom award, each teacher receives the following:

  • A $1,000 donation for their school
  • “Heroes” award certificate and gift bag
  • Two tickets to a 49ers regular season home game
  • Customized 49ers jersey and pre-game experience

Since 2011, The San Francisco 49ers and Symetra have partnered on the “Symetra Heroes in the Classroom” teacher recognition program, which celebrates outstanding educators in the Bay Area.

Submit your nomination (or two!) for your Symetra Heroes in the Classroom today!

Autumn Innovations and Inspirations

October in our schools is an exciting month of learning and celebration. Teachers of all grades are engaging students in activities and projects that teach them mastery of grade level standards while developing their curiosity and innovative thinking. Elementary students are learning science, math, and art as they design and grow school gardens. Middle school students are fostering civic involvement and pride as they study government and engage in local community service. High school students are mastering their fall music performances, learning new languages, and growing pride in their school communities during Homecoming Weeks. This is just a glimpse of the vibrant learning I see in our Livermore schools.

Autumn is a great season to embrace the outdoors, and I want to thank our community for supporting our schools while enjoying the fresh fall air. Over 2,200 people joined the 8th Annual LVEF Walk 4 Education at Livermore High School. Thank you, Livermore Valley Education Foundation! What a fun-filled morning with tremendous community support! And what a celebration to have the event centered around the new field turf at LHS. I hope you will join me this evening as we cut the ribbon to inaugurate the new turf at Granada High School.

We are moving forward with the planning and implementation of the facilities bond projects, thanks to the community support of Measure J. Please check the LVJUSD website for current updates and photos showing progress at our school sites. As voters plan their visits to the polls next month, please pay close attention to those propositions that have critical implications for public education. I would also like to commend our School Board trustees for their ongoing service to the community. This fall, two positions scheduled for the election cycle were uncontested, so we congratulate Chuck Rogge and Chris Wenzel and look forward to four more years of their service. Having no opponents step forward signals a vote of confidence, while also saving the District the expense of an election.

I applaud all of our staff members for creating welcoming schools that inspire our students!

With gratitude,

Kelly Bowers, Ed.D.

Race.jpgThe Livermore-Granada Boosters will host the 7th Annual “Race to the Flagpole” on Saturday, November 12. The event offers several distances that include a 5K run/walk, 10K run, half marathon and one-mile fun run.  All events start at Independence Park and go through Livermore’s scenic Sycamore Grove Park. The half marathon goes through Holdener Park in the rolling wine country and continues through Sycamore Grove. These events are open to all ages and abilities. All race proceeds support the Livermore-Granada Boosters scholarship program.

Race-day registration begins at 6:45 a.m. at Independence Park, 2798 Holmes Street in Livermore. The half marathon starts at 8:30am, 10K starts at 9:00am and 5K at 9:15am. The one-mile fun run begins at 10:45 am. Pre-registration entry fees for the 5K are $30, the 10K $35 per runner, and half marathon entry fees $45 per runner.  Group/family discounts are available for four or more runners. The one-mile fun run entry fee is $10. On race day, all registration entry fees will be an additional $10. This year we are offering a special student rate to all students - high school seniors and under that wish to participate in the 5K, 10K or half marathon. The cost is only $20 for any of these events. In order to receive the student rate you must register online at www.livermoregranadaboosters.org

Every participant will receive a commemorative T-shirt, medal, and post-race refreshments. The awards ceremony honors the top finishers in each race, school participation, and a tribute to our veterans. All schools in Livermore may compete for the top participation award. The school with the most participants receives a $250 cash donation. For more information, for sponsorship opportunities, or to register, visit www.livermoregranadaboosters.org or contact Mike Nagel, Race Director, at 925-667-6535 or email at flagpolerace@yahoo.com.
