Fourth grade students from Jackson and Joe Michell Elementary Schools enjoyed an opportunity to learn about nutrition, the importance of exercise to good health, and, most of all, a chance to taste test a number of healty food choices that might appear on school's lunch menus. Students also learned about the need to reduce their daily sugar intake, the essential role of fiber in the diet, which fats are healthy and which are not, how to evaluate any food item, ideas for creating a 5-a-day menu, and how to improve their heart fitness. The event was sponsored by our Campus Catering Department with the support of District vendors, UC Berkeley's Lawrence Hall of Science, and the Alameda County Office of Education.
